The left may be pressuring President Obama to exit Afghanistan. But their heroes—from FDR to JFK—promoted U.S. involvement in more wars than all modern GOP presidents combined.
NOBODY could be lost for words in introducing the slight figure sitting before me with his cap cocked jauntily to one side of his head.
If I didn't enjoy it, I didn't read it. Simple as that. That's how I exploited my WASP heritage- and squandered it. I'd pick up a thick book, and if I liked it, I'd take my time reading it.

From the file marked "Evidently, many scientists have never seen even one scary sci-fi movie": The Defense Department is funding research into battlefield robots that power themselves by eating human corpses. What could possibly go wrong?
You know what I mean.

New Rule: Everyone deserves equal rights. That's why they're called "equal" and "rights." Tomorrow night President Obama will speak before a gay rights group, and on Sunday there will be a massive gay rally in Washington, or as I call it, the Million Mo March.
There's a lot of talk spurting up about how President Obama should try to more like LBJ (!), or Majority Leader Harry Reid should try to emulate the Senate Majority Leader of 1955-1960.

Using brochures, public service announcements and meetings with community groups, iWATCH is designed to deliver concrete advice on how the public can follow the oft-repeated post-9/11 recommendation: "If you see something, say something." Program materials list nine types of susp …
"Where Men Win Glory," Jon Krakauer's narrative of pro football player Pat Tillman's "odyssey," as he calls it, from the playing field to the battlefield, is nuanced, thorough and chilling.
And now Sarah Palin apparently hopes to make the term "rogue" impish and endearing, and hopes it will help her sell a lot of books. But that term is no such thing to many Alaskans.
Last week, a Washington Times blogger posted a call to arms, beseeching readers to help the newspaper dig up more information regarding a long list of arts organization representatives who took part in a conference call with the White House on August 10.
Political commentators keep describing the climate-change legislation passed by the U.S. House of Representatives in June as stalled in the U.S. Senate.
I'm not sure when it first hit me that the future of our country, particularly when it comes to race relations, is really looking up. Perhaps it was when a member of the Boston Police Department referred to Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. as a "banana-eating jungle monkey."
Marvin Harrison has always let his hands do the talking. Turns out, they've been saying things no one expected to hear.
I marvel at folk who for political ends would impugn the record of bravery and sacrifice of an American hero... a dedicated soldier and leader who sacrificed limbs- and willing his life- in a brave demonstration of leadership.

While coverage of the health care reform debate has focused on yelling, booing and fistfights, not all engagements between lawmakers and constituents turn hostile. Sen.
The rapid rise in casualties (in Afghanistan) over the past two years is attributed in part to the increased lethality of the Taliban mines.
Thomas Fitzgerald never knew what hit him. One minute he was riding home from his night-shift job and stopping his bike at Broad and South Streets to watch a mob scene that appeared to be getting out of control.
Any time the federal government in the United States gets into a phase of spending more money (let alone vastly more) than it is accumulating in collections, a vast swath of America gets nervous, and rightly so.

The other night, I had a difficult time sleeping. Eventually, I realized why. I was furious at George Bush. To be clear, this wasn't a case of living in the past and not getting over it. This was seeing the damage still being caused.
Printing press and the Renaissance, the Industrial Revolution, the Information Revolution, what now? Green Revolution? Perhaps.

BAGHDAD — Attackers paid $10,000 to get a bomb-laden truck past checkpoints and next to the Iraqi Finance Ministry in last week's attacks, one of the suspected masterminds said in a confession broadcast Sunday.
With great sorrow and deep consternation, we hereby declare the death of the latest hope. Perhaps rumors of its death are greatly exaggerated, to paraphrase the famous quote by Mark Twain, but the fears are being validated day after day.

I'd like to react to your reaction to mine:you ,in an attempt at irony, a poor one alas!make a reference to Hitler, identifying the intervention against Hitler with wars of aggression.
The US participation in the war , a tardy and well-nigh reluctant one, the more so as Nazi sympathizers were numerous in the country, cannot be likened to an act of aggression, albeit the various theories about the origins of the Second World War; in any case, the US did not intervene because of pride : they were in fact dragged into the war.
As far 1812 is concerned, I was hoping everybody, including you, would have understood that I meant that it was the only time when the US was actually threatened on its own territory. And I'm being generous when I speak of Indian land as being US territory.
The US no war mongering party? Oh come on.Where do you want to start? In Afghanistan? In Iraq? In Grenada? In Panama ? In Yugoslavia ? Chile 73 ?Chile 1891? Nicaragua ? Haiti? Vietnam? Shall I continue ?
It's just too bad,but that's how it is.
This having been said, I'd , willingly choosing to be oblivious to the past, say that, given the present geopolitical configuration , the US can play a major role in promoting world peace.I know that many ,countless Americans subscribe to this. But will the US Government and, more importantly, the invisible government of the US, have any thought for world peace?

Really? A coon? Is this where we're at now? Because this sort of stuff isn't coded speech, it's not a dog whistle or faux-irony … it's flat-out, no-apologies, bottom-of-the-barrel, peckerwood racism.
